Save a Wave

You know the feeling of riding your first wave? It's even more exciting to see your 10-yr old cousin dominating a wave on her first attempt.

After years of trying to bring my baby cousins back to our grandma's hometown and my favorite spot, San Juan, La Union, we were finally able to let them try surfing for the first time and they did not disappoint. Seeing them fearlessly glide straight to the shore tickled my maternal hormones and had me feeling like I was watching my baby take her first tiny steps.

She proved that being comfortable in the water is in our blood and I was so happy to know that she enjoyed surfing as much as me. I even managed to catch a few waves with her! And we've got a pretty good shot of that moment.

It's the kind of thing that you'll treasure for years to come.

Sharing that experience with my baby cousin brought me to another level of understanding and respect for the sport. If you've come across a recent article I have written for www.wheninmanila.com on Surfing, you'd know how completely in love I am and that I'm glad I've found another reason to 'keep on surfing surfing surfing...'
